David Moyes is happy with Robin Van Persie progress

by Sam Peoples

David Moyes is happy with how Robin van Persie‘s progress is going following the recent injury he sustained against Shakhtar Donetsk which ruled him out for up to four weeks, but isn’t sure if he can return in time for Manchester United’s game against Hull City on Boxing Day.

The 30-year-old aggravated a thigh injury he previously had at Arsenal when he took a corner after he came on as a substitute to help inspire United’s 1-0 victory that saw us top the group.

Although Moyes admitted Van Persie was feeling ‘quite good’, the game against Hull on Boxing Day will likely be too soon for the Dutchman to make a return.

“Robin is progressing, he’s coming on, and he is feeling quite good,” he said.

“He had a similar injury at Arsenal on his thigh, so it is something we have to be sure about [before he returns]. It wouldn’t be much good if it got repeated, so we will try to take it steady.

“I think it [game against Hull City] probably will be [too soon].

“Obviously the medical team are controlling him, but we speak to Robin as well about how he feels and what he feels he needs to do.

“We’re doing everything we can to make sure he’s well looked after and well treated.”

Van Persie has struggled to be fully fit all season but has still managed to score ten goals in all competitions before January, so if he can use this festive break to really make sure that he returns at full tilt, it could be the perfect injection that United’s Premier League campaign needs.

While many, including myself, have pointed the finger at Moyes for Van Persie being rushed back into action, the fact that the Dutchman is involved in deciding when he is ready to return indicates that he may have been at fault for rushing himself back as well.

We have made a return to winning form with four wins on the bounce and with the likes of Carrick, Vidic and Van Persie soon to make a return to fitness, United’s campaign is shaping up nicely for the New Year where we traditionally play better.
