David Moyes is remaining hopeful that Robin van Persie or Michael Carrick might be fit in time to play Hull City on Boxing Day.
The pair have been missing for the past few weeks due to injuries and Manchester United have certainly missed their presence on the pitch.
Van Persie was expected to be back at some point in January while Carrick had an outside chance of being fit in time for Hull, but it looks like neither will be ready to play unless a minor miracle happens.
“There are always miracles at Christmas,” Moyes told reporters at this afternoon’s press conference.
“Let’s hope there could be one for Robin van Persie and Michael Carrick. You never know.”
United have had to employ Phil Jones in the middle where he has done an admirable job without Carrick acting as the linchpin in midfield but we still miss having him in the side.
As for Van Persie, he hasn’t been fully fit all season and United have somewhat coped without him but we miss his clinical touch in front of goal.
If United can earn victories from the last few fixtures in 2013, we will put ourselves in a very strong position for when our squad returns to full fitness from January onwards where our form is traditionally stronger.
