Wesley Sneijder puts an end to Manchester United rumours

by Sam Peoples

Wesley Sneijder has categorically denied that he is interested in a move to Manchester United or any other club away from Galatasaray and admitted that he looks forward to the end of the transfer window.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to United more times than most people have had hot dinners and this year, the links started in December following his goalscoring heroics to help Galatasaray qualify for the Champions League knock-out at the expense of Juventus.

Yet, despite potential interest away from Galatasaray, Sneijder is ‘very happy’ in Turkey to continue to play for the team.

“You would know better than me if I received any offers. Up to now there are no offers,” he said.

“There are rumours about me in every transfer window. I look forward to the end of transfer windows so people stop talking about me.

“I’m very happy here with the team and the fans and I have no reason to leave.

“This type of news always happens. You just need to wait until the end of the window.”

It’s a real shame that Inter blocked United’s move for Sneijder in 2010. In that year, he won the treble with Inter and reached the World Cup final with Holland. He nearly had the perfect year a footballer can have and United were close to making him Paul Scholes’ replacecment.

Back in 2010, he was one of the best midfielders in the world and although he still has a lot to offer, United may be better off looking at other options as a more long term goal. However, on that same note, the experience he’d give could give our midfield the injection it needs right now.

Should David Moyes be looking at bringing Wesley Sneijder to Manchester United if he could?
