David Moyes confirms Rafael injury as United’s bad luck continues

by Sam Peoples

David Moyes has confirmed Rafael sustained a groin injury against Hull City today and it doesn’t look like he will be fit in time to face Norwich.

The 23-year-old limped off in the first half and went straight down the tunnel holding his groin. Fans hoped it was nothing more than a precaution but it wasn’t the case.

It is a cruel blow because Rafael and Valencia had rekindled their devastating partnership on the right hand side of midfield in recent weeks and were flourishing together for the first time in a while.

When asked whether he was going to be ready in time for Saturday, Rafael indicated that he faced another spell on the sidelines when he shook his head.

United have had a torrid time this season when it comes to injuries. Phil Jones was ruled out this week due to a knee injury he picked up in training and now Rafael will join him on the sidelines.

With Antonio Valencia banned alongside an injured Jones and Rafael, Moyes is going to have to put out a makeshift right-back in the next game. Alternatively, he could play his twin brother Fabio there but doesn’t seem to like playing the Brazilian this season.

United’s injury list is really piling up now but we have managed five wins on the trot, so hopefully Rafael’s absence won’t effect that run.
