Match Preview: Norwich City vs Manchester United – Tigers down, Canaries next

Manchester United will be looking to continue their recent form when they travel to Carrow Road in the Premier League tomorrow.

After a tough start to the month which saw United lose back to back home games, five wins on the bounce have seen the gap at the top close from 13 to eight points and a new-found sense of optimism has enveloped Old Trafford.

David Moyes’ side produced a display reminiscent of United of old against Hull City on Boxing Day, where we showed great resilience to come back from two goals down and didn’t buckle when the pressure was cranked up in the last five minutes – but we need to continue in a similar vein of form over the hectic festive period.

Norwich have struggled this season and are three games without a win. Despite a substantial outlay over the summer, the Canaries have won just three times since October and lie 14th in the table, just three points above the relegation zone.

The Canaries have a poor record against United having won just twice in their previous 16 against United, losing on 13 occasions.

Chris Hughton could have record signing Ricky Van Wolfswinkel back after he made his injury return in his sides defeat to Fulham on Boxing Day but Michael Turner is suspended after picking up his 5th booking of the season.

Moyes is likely to be without Rafael da Silva after the Brazilian full-back limped off at Hull with a groin complaint. Antonio Valencia is suspended after being sent-off while the likes of Marouane Fellaini, Phil Jones and Nani are all missing through injury. Michael Carrick made his return from an Achilles problem against Hull and Robin van Persie may have an outside chance of making the bench.

Both sides finished with a win apiece last season. Norwich inflicted a shock 1-0 defeat over United at Carrow Road while United triumphed in the reverse at Old Trafford, where Shinji Kagawa netted a hat-trick in a 4-0 victory for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. United have already beaten Norwich once this season, again by a 4-0 margin in the Capital One Cup thanks in no small part to a Javier Hernandez brace.

The Canaries have a poor record against United having won just twice in their previous 16 against United, losing on 13 occasions.

United have travelled well since Moyes’ appointment in the summer having scored in all but one of their Premier League away games this season. Norwich, meanwhile have struggled to find the net this term with just 16 goals in 18 matches and it’s difficult to see anything but a victory when United journey to East Anglia tomorrow.

Prediction: Norwich 0-2 Manchester United
