Robbie Savage gets the impression from Robin van Persie that he is still in love with Manchester United and has no intention of leaving the club any time soon.
The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford as rumours, started by Mark Lawrenson, suggested he was unhappy at his situation following the appointment of David Moyes.
However, Savage dismissed these claims when asked by Swedish television channel Viasatsport this week.
He said: “I have become good friends with Robin van Persie because our sons play in the same football team together, so we’ve become very friendly.
“In my conversations I have had with Robin, he actually loves it at Manchester United.
“He has been unfortunate with injuries like the thigh strain he picked up but I think he is in love. He’ll be a Manchester United player certainly this season and next season.”
Nobody wants to see Van Persie leave and it is good that those who interact with him like Savage get the impression that he doesn’t want to leave the club either.
If Van Persie wasn’t injured and he knocking in goals, there would probably be no rumours about him being unhappy and as soon as he does return from this thigh injury, hopefully he can get back to his goalscoring ways to put the rumours to bed himself.
