Bad news for Wayne Rooney

David Moyes has confirmed that Wayne Rooney is likely to miss some upcoming games as he hasn’t yet fully recovered from the groin injury that ruled him out of our game against Norwich last week.

Rooney returned to the line-up to face Tottenham and played the full 90 minutes today but was unable to help steer Manchester United to victory like he has done on so many occasions this season.

His importance to the side has been obvious and although Moyes wants to play him in every game, he has conceded that Rooney will have to miss some games to regain his full fitness.

“The plan was to play Wayne for 90 minutes, but he has a bit of a groin injury,” Moyes said after the game.

“The longer it went on, we had to try to get more attacking players on the pitch to try and find more ways to score.

“If I could (rest Rooney) I would, but the games are coming thick and fast. He has missed a game with his groin and he may well miss some more coming up.”

With the FA Cup starting this week and the semi-final of the Capital One Cup happening, there will be occasions for Moyes to give Rooney the rest he needs. The last thing United need now is a long term injury to Rooney.
