Moyes confirms bad news that Rooney’s injury is ‘not getting any better’

David Moyes has indicated that Wayne Rooney may have to spend more time on the sidelines than expected after revealing that his injury has not improved when asked in today’s press conference.

The 28-year-old missed the win over Norwich City during the festive period thanks to a groin injury but returned against Tottenham Hotspur in the 2-1 loss last week, where it was obvious that he wasn’t 100% match fit.

After the Spurs game, Moyes admitted that Rooney may have to miss a couple of matches in order to regain full fitness but by the sounds of it, he hasn’t progressed as well as Moyes would have hoped since then.

Rooney has been absolutely instrumental for United this season and in his absence with Robin van Persie already sidelined, we have struggled to be creative going forward.

The big match in January is without question the clash against Chelsea on 19 January and if it is a case of resting Rooney until then to make sure he doesn’t aggravate his injury further, Moyes needs to do that.
