Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin has confirmed that Manchester United have not made any contact with the club over a potential move for Remy Cabella.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to United ever since Nicollin insisted that €18 million would be enough to sign him, likely in an attempt to drum up interest from David Moyes, but it has clearly not worked and Newcastle are reportedly likely to put in a bid of their own.
“Manchester [United] has not sent any proposal,” Nicollin told Midi Libre.
“As for Newcastle , it seems to me they are about to make one, but I expect confirmation on that. But the idea is still that Remy is with Montpellier until June.”
“Remy Cabella? It is best to keep him but if Loulou [Nicollin] decides that it can be done in January, it will be in January.” Rolland Courbis, Montpellier coach
French football expert Tom Coast likened Cabella to Nani in that his consistency leaves a lot to be desired and doubted whether he was ready to be a United player just yet.
“I like Rémy Cabella but don’t think he’s ready for a club like Manchester United yet,” he said.
“He’s inconsistent and is an attacking midfielder equivalent of Nani. He’s capable of creating something out of nothing with an amazing Hollywood through ball or a little flick, but more often than not, he has the tendency to go missing.”
It looks like United may well have never been interested in Cabella at all and that Nicollin was simply using United’s name to try and stir up interest in the player.
