United send scouts to Juventus’ clash against Roma to watch Vidal, Strootman and more

by Sam Peoples

Reports from Italy suggested that Manchester United sent scouts to watch Juventus take on Roma last night and there were a host of players in action who have been linked with a move to United.

Juventus’ Arturo Vidal and Roma’s Kevin Strootman are two names that have been heavily linked but who might United have looked at? We take a look at the options.

Arturo Vidal – There is no better box-to-box, goalscoring midfielder around right now better than the Chilean. He has a wide range of passing, can control the tempo of a football match and is lethal on the counter. Last nigh, he scored and was the dominant force in midfield. He would be the ideal player for United to build a team around with his energy and dynamism.

Kevin Strootman – United were heavily linked throughout last season and the summer before his move to Roma. Another player with bags of energy, he would enhance the United midfield with his awareness and drive. He has slotted into a midfield at Roma and shone but couldn’t do anything against Juventus thanks to Roma finishing the game with nine men.

Mirajlem Pjanic – With the United midfield crying out for creativity and flair, Pjanic would provide that defence-splitting pass that United have so badly lacked this season. Pjanic is a player who likes the ball played to his feet and to be able to dictate the tempo but a weakness is his slight frame, which could make him struggle in the intense environment of the Premier League.

Paul Pogba – Although unlikely to return, Moyes may well have asked his scouts to keep an eye on Pogba given his uncertain future in Turin and alongside Pirlo and Vidal, he helped sweep Roma aside. The more he plays, the more it hurts to think he could have been doing it at United.

Kwadwo Asamoah – The Ghanaian was a shrewd move from Conte when Juventus won their first title back in the top flight and he has added a different option. Capable of playing on the left side of midfield, he is primarily a central-midfielder who can move from box-to-box but can sometimes lack the final ball. Conte uses him on the left side which utilises his crossing and also defensive capabilities. He is tactically, very good.

Adem LjajicA player who had a deal agreed to join United, he plays on the wing for Roma and provides great flair to the team. He has developed very well technically and was fantastic at Fiorentina previously. Would provide much added creativity from the wide areas for United and would give a different option to the current crop.

Claudio Marchisio – On the periphery at the moment at Juventus but one of the key players, Marchisio could be the ideal option. Came off from the bench and did not make much of an impact but he would provide a solid body in the middle with energy, pace and drive alongside Michael Carrick. Seems a viable option for the club and would not cost as much as other options like Vidal or Pogba. Has previously said he was honoured by being linked to United.
