United to miss out on perfect midfielder as agent confirms Napoli talks

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United look set to miss out on FC Porto’s Fernando after his agent Antonio Araujo confirmed they have entered talks with Napoli while AC Milan’s CEO Adriano Galliani has also confirmed his club want to sign Fernando.

The 26-year-old defensive midfielder is out of contract in the summer and on paper, he is exactly the sort of no nonsense ball winning midfielder that United need.

However, Araujo confirmed to Tuttonapoli.net that discussions with Napoli had already started.

We are in talks with Napoli but right now I find myself in Brazil. When I return to Portugal next week, we will see what happens,” he said.

Napoli, who are currently third in Serie A ten points off top, are a good side under Rafael Benitez but United should be doing everything in their power to compete for a player like him.

Meanwhile, Galliani has confirmed that talks are underway in an attempt to bring him to Milan.

He said: “There are talks for Fernando, good player. But not done deal, we need before to sell some player”

Milan are 11th in Serie A, nine points off bottom and 27 points from the top of the table and are very unlikely to get Champions League football next year unless they win the competition. Why would Fernando want to join them?

United failed in their attempts to bring the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera in the summer but can ill afford to miss out on a player like Fernando who ticks the boxes for so many reasons.

Moyes wants value in the market? Fernando is out of contract in the summer and could be secured in January for a small fee.

Moyes wants a top class player? Fernando plays for Porto who are top of their league and he played Champions League football this year.

Moyes wants experience? At 26, Fernando is established and could walk straight into United’s first team.

This January was going to be difficult for Moyes in terms of player availability but if a midfielder like Fernando is there for the taking and we do not act, it is a tired excuse.
