Manchester United could make double Brazilian signing from Cruzeiro

by Sam Peoples

The agent of Cruzeiro defender Dede has insisted that he could leave the club for a fee between €12 to 15 million, according to Sambafoot.

Dede won the Brazilian league with Cruzeiro in his first season at the club and has been touted as a potential long term replacement for Rio Ferdinand or Nemanja Vidic in United’s squad. With nine Brazil caps to his name, he could also still force his way into Brazil’s squad for the 2014 World Cup.

Last season Dede made 1402 passes in 31 games, created six goalscoring opportunities and took 35 shots – not bad for a centre back but typical of one from Brazil as they tend to be strong going forward and he is remarkably agile for a man who is over 6″3.

When he squared up against Neymar, he coped admirably well.

We asked OldTrafford Brasil editor Lucas Sposito what his opinion of Dede was and whether he was good enough to be a United player.

He said: “He used to be a great potential but stopped developing rapidly two years ago. He’s tall, quick and stopped Neymar once.

“On the whole, he is a good defender and would be good enough for most Premier League clubs, but not enough for United.”

By all accounts, Dede would be a risky signing given that you can’t guarantee a player would be able to fit into the Premier League but at around €12 million, it could be a risk worth taking.

United have also already been strongly linked with another Cruzeiro player in midfielder Everton Ribeiro and there would be some potential for a double deal for the pair.

The major stumbling block for any January move for Dede and Ribeiro is that neither Cruzeiro nor the players themselves will want them to leave before the Copa Libertadores which starts at the end of January. Therefore, any January move for either is unlikely.

However, comments from Ribeiro and now Dede’s agent indicate that a summer swoop for both would be very achievable for United.
