Moyes reiterates his stance on January signings at Manchester United

David Moyes has once again reiterated Manchester United may well be active in January but that it will be difficult to bring in who he wants.

From day one, Moyes has said that United were looking to be active in the January transfer window if we could sign the right type of player as part of a long term plan, and he remains unwavering in that stance.

“I’ve not said we won’t be doing it but I’ve said since day one it’s difficult,” he told reporters this afternoon.

Moyes’ major issue is this; he is right to not want to buy players who aren’t suitable on a long term basis but if we do not buy anybody in the short term and finish outside the top four, will he be able to buy those long term players he wants without the lure of Champions League football? Potentially not.

The short term necessity for players is intrinsically linked to the ability to buy who he wants in the summer and without any signings in January, he may be stuck up a certain creek without a paddle this summer.

There are definitely players available in this window who could really help United this season. Benfica’s Nemanja Matic has admitted he wants to move to the Premier League an Fabio Coentrao continues to be frozen out at Real Madrid. Both could be both helpful in the short term and at United for years in the long term, the perfect scenario.

However, teams know that United are desperate right now and could bump up transfer fees accordingly but whatever happens, Moyes needs to try his utmost to strengthen United in January otherwise we really will struggle to finish in the top four if this form continues.
