Wayne Rooney was named Manchester United’s player of the month for the third time already this season for his excellent form in December and he thanked United’s fans for the support they have shown the team this season.
The 28-year-old scored three goals and grabbed four assists in six games during the busy festive schedule and he was instrumental in United’s six game winning streak following the disappointing losses against Everton and Newcastle.
United really missed him in the 2-1 loss away to Sunderland this week where United’s fans were in full voice, something Rooney wanted to thank the fans for.
“The fans’ support is very important,” he said.
“The fans have been great here, especially now when we are not in the best of form and we have lost the last few games.
“We need them to support us through this time. We will get stronger and we will get better. The fans are vital in being patient with us and letting us try to get there. I am sure we will.”
Right now, United’s fans do all need to pull together because we are going through a rough spell and just as the away fans showed at Sunderland, there is nothing that can stop United fans from singing. United have the best away fans in the country.
Hopefully Rooney is fit to play against Swansea this weekend because of how important he has been to us this season and the prospect of losing four games in a row isn’t very good.
