Cruzeiro defender Dede has welcomed reported interest from Manchester United and thanked his current club for giving him the opportunity to flourish.
The 25-year-old’s agent confirmed that Zenit St Petersburg had made enquiries about him but did not give any further details on United’s interest as it wasn’t something he was aware of.
United are likely to bring a centre back to Old Trafford in the next couple of transfer windows because Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic’s United careers are coming to a close, which is likely why the Dede speculation began.
“This (speculation) is good too, especially for the valuation of me, the player,” Dede told Lancenet.
“Prior to joining Cruzeiro, I thanked Corinthians a lot for making a good proposal, which I valued.
“I came to Cruzeiro instead and thanked them even more. They give me strength, great moral support and I thank them for allowing me a stage to continue growing, which is what I really needed.
“And today the great teams of Europe are speculated to be linked with my name, this gives me a lot of confidence and makes me very happy. It helps me a lot.”
Although Dede’s agent Giuliano Aranda didn’t confirm interest from United, he admitted that he had received contact from Manchester City so Dede is certainly drawing interest from Europe.
Dede’s form with Cruzeiro could see him recalled to Brazil ahead of the World Cup and if United did want to make a move for him, it would be in our best interest to do it before the tournament starts because of how much prices are hiked following the conclusion of it. In 2010, we signed Javier Hernandez for £8 million before he turned out to be one of the best strikers at the World Cup, so we have made that sort of pre-emptive move before and it has worked out in our favour.
