Atletico Madrid’s on-loan midfielder Saul Niguez has distanced himself from a move to Manchester United by claiming he is unaware of it and insisted he remains focused on the job at hand with Rayo Vallecano.
The 19-year-old has been watched two times within a week by United scouts and has subsequently been linked with a move to United.
Although Rayo Vallecano are involved in a relegation scrap, Niguez has been catching the eye of clubs around Europe including United but speaking to GolTV, Niguez insisted he was unaware of any interest from other clubs.
“I know nothing [of the Manchester United interest],” he said.
“I’m just focused on Rayo Vallecano and now we have to win Saturday’s game because it is very important that the coach, managers and fans see that we are focused on our goal, which is now staying up.”
Niguez made his debut for Spain’s Under-21s in September and like a lot of the younger players coming through in La Liga, is very comfortable with the ball at his feet.
David Moyes clearly has an affection for midfielders from La Liga given our summer bids for Cesc Fabregas, Ander Herrera and Sami Khedira. and who can blame him given that Spanish football has dominated the international scene for six years.
At this stage, almost any midfielder would strengthen United’s side but a move for Niguez is unlikely given that he would not be ready for United’s first team. However, he could be seen as a long term prospect by Moyes.
One thing is for sure, it looks like Moyes isn’t going to rest on his laurels in the summer and hopefully, we can conduct some business in January too.
