Manchester United have been boosted by Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie’s return to full training yesterday but neither are likely to be fit in time to face Sunderland today in the Capital One Cup semi-final according to The Telegraph and The Times.
The Express believe that Rooney is fit to start against Sunderland tomorrow and Van Persie is fit enough to make the bench, but the reliable Mark Ogden and James Ducker are usually very accurate with their United news.
United have rarely had both our star strikers fit together this season and our form has suffered because of it. We have lost five games at home this year already and look out of Premier League title race as we have struggled to find any sort of form without them.
It was hoped that Rooney might be ready to return for our trip to Sunderland because with a final at Wembley against Manchester City at stake, it is a big occasion for David Moyes and a blow that neither are fit, but we will have to cope without them.
This season, United have had torrid luck with injuries and in this scenario, Moyes has to make sure he gives both Rooney and Van Persie as much time off as they need so that when they do come back into the fold, they are 100% fit. Anything less could see further injuries occur.
You feel that Van Persie has the potential to be the catalyst to a second half of the season revival, so hopefully he returns sooner rather than later.
