Manchester United agree £40m deal for Juan Mata according to Sky Sports

Manchester United have agreed a £40 million deal to sign Juan Mata from Chelsea in January according to Sky Sports.

They announced the news the build-up to tonight’s game against Sunderland and Guillem Balague has also said that a €45 million deal has been agreed for Mata. Given Balague’s past history of saying that Thiago was going to join United and that we had put a deposit down for Falcao, it’s hard to fully trust him but Sky Sports also announced the news.

The reliable Andy Mitten has not gone as far as to say that a deal has been agreed but is confident it is close.

Nothing is yet confirmed by either club but every major media outlet suggests that a deal is soon to be announced and the feeling from those close to the club is that it will be completed very soon as well. Either they are all wrong or an announcement on Mata is imminent.

Given that Mata’s name hadn’t been linked to United since a potential swap deal in the summer until the past 48 hours, this transfer has moved at the speed of light and the impact of Mata moving to Old Trafford would be phenomenal. It’d be a massive lift for the squad after a slow start to the season.

Sky Sports surprisingly did not question David Moyes about any deal for Mata before the game but they were more than likely asked not to before he went on camera.

Today has been a whirlwind of excitement amongst United fans and official news is expected soon either way.
