Manchester United officials remained in London after the game against Chelsea at the weekend and discussed the possibility of signing Arturo Vidal with Juventus, according to Miguel Delaney at ESPN.
Delaney insists that a deal is far from being agreed but United have been encouraged by the initial negotiations for Vidal, who is without doubt one of Europe’s best central midfielders.
Reports of an initial approach for Vidal from United came after David Moyes watched Juventus beat Cagliari 4-1 last week and Delaney’s claims suggest that further discussions have taken place.
United had been very quiet in this transfer window apart from Moyes’ scouting trips but in the past 48 hours, it has exploded with strong links to Mata, Dante and Vidal amongst others.
Delaney goes on to suggest that wages could be where United can trump Juventus. There would have to be a significant draw to pull Vidal away from Juventus as he has always remained committed to winning trophies with Juventus, and they are currently eight points clear at the top of Serie A.
On paper, Vidal might be the best midfielder United could possibly sign because he is a midfield enforcer with endless energy who can score goals aplenty – everything that United need.
He would be an extremely hard target to prize away from Juventus but United’s interest in Mata is a signal of intent from David Moyes that he is now looking at the very best players to help bring in a new era at Old Trafford. By the sounds of it, Vidal could well become part of it if Moyes can land him.
