Chevrolet have followed in the footsteps of Manchester United’s official Twitter account by having a faux pas of their own tonight.

They caused a massive stir by sending a tweet out to welcome Juan Mata to Manchester United before his transfer has been completed, only to then delete the tweet within minutes.

Obviously, the tweet was instantly retweeted hundreds of times and Chevrolet were trending in Manchester because of it. Whoops.

Do Chevrolet know something that we all don’t or have they simply jumped the gun? Either way, someone will have to explain it to their bosses. Chevrolet have since sent out an apology to cover for their overexcitement.

chevroletChevrolet may have deleted the tweet straight away but as is the case on Twitter, plenty of people took a screenshot straight away. It is almost impossible to get away with a deleted tweet without someone taking a screenshot.

I’m not sure what is worse about it – that Mata hasn’t actually signed before Chevrolet tweeted this or the fact that they called Mata a striker.
