Manchester United could still make Chelsea’s transfer window worse

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United have made a £22.5 million bid for Southampton left-back Luke Shaw according to The Mirror and hope to open up talks this weekend.

Our bid is above Chelsea’s reported offer of £21 million for the highly rated 18-year-old who is strongly considered as one of the best prospects at a long term left back replacement for Patrice Evra at Old Trafford.

The Mirror suggests that Shaw could be given first team promises this season in order to tempt to move to Old Trafford with a future aim of becoming our first choice left back for what could potentially be over a decade.

Shaw is considered Ashley Cole’s long term replacement for England and although United have reportedly usurped Chelsea’s financial offer, Shaw is known to be Chelsea fan which could be a factor in any potential departure from Southampton. He could reject personal terms with United in order to push a Chelsea move through.

However, if Moyes really did want to land Shaw as his future left back, he’d surely offer him a lucrative package that could sway him.

Some may baulk at the pricetag of £22.5 million for an 18-year-old but when you consider he could play at left back for a decade at a club, it could work out to be a bargain for whoever manages to sign him.
