David Moyes has vowed to make Juan Mata one of the first of many signings at Manchester United that will help shape an exciting future for the club.
The 25-year-old’s arrival for £37 million from Chelsea smashed United’s transfer record and it immediately created a wave of positivity to wash over fans who couldn’t quite believe we had signed him.
Mata is a world-class player with proven calibre at the highest level and Moyes has every intention of signing players like Mata to help bring the club into a new age.
“I want to build an exciting team,” Moyes told ManUtd.com.
“That’s always the way I’ve wanted my football to be played and I’ve not known it any other way.
“I want to win and give the supporters something to shout about because I’ve not done that often enough. What I will say is that this is the first of many more to come in time. I’m looking forward to Juan being the start of it.”
Although United have just wrapped up a deal for Mata, there are still pressing issues in the squad in the central midfield and left back department with new players needed in both areas.
United have been linked with a host of players in but Moyes said that he didn’t feel United would sign anybody else in January, allthough he refused to close the door on the possibility.
He added: “I don’t think we’ll have any more in January. I’m still working on it and looking to do things – we know exactly what we’d like to do and if it changes in the last week, which sometimes it can do, then we’ll try. I hope it will be the first of some new signings that will arrive, but more likely in the summer.”
