PICTURE: Rooney shared a warm embrace with Solskjaer at full time

When the full time whistle blew on Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Cardiff, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer walked off to a chorus of songs and cheers in his name as the whole of Old Trafford made him feel right back at home.

Although he would have expected a warm welcome, I’m not sure Solskjaer expected his name to be sung all the way through the match and even after the full time whistle.

He received a hero’s welcome on his return and as he walked off towards the tunnel, Wayne Rooney jogged over to have a warm embrace and a chat with him – it was a nice touch from Rooney to go over to Solskjaer I think because there are few players held in such high regard as Solskjaer at Old Trafford.

The pair were teammates for three years and although Solskjaer was dogged by injuries in that time period, Rooney would have learned from the baby faced assassin about how to get the best out of his finishing.

Hopefully, this won’t be the last time that Solskjaer is in the dugout at Old Trafford and I’m not talking about next year with Cardiff.
