After a dismal run of results in January, it was the perfect time for Van Persie and Rooney to come back into the team and alongside them, Mata hopes to play some liquid football at United.
“I can’t wait to play alongside Rooney,” he said.
“He is one of the best players in the history of England.
“He is unbelievable; he can score, he can assist and he can come into midfield to take the ball in midfield. So I think I will enjoy playing alongside him a lot.
“I will try to connect with him as much as I can. I will try to find the gaps between the opposition midfield and defence because that is something I was used to doing in the last two seasons. That is the best position for me to play; to try to assist the strikers.”
Together, the trio are one of the most lethal attacking forces in Europe. Mata feels his best is yet to come and Van Persie and Rooney are good enough to win any game. Their individual games are brilliant when executed properly but what they now need to do now is to work together.
Without Rooney and Van Persie in full tilt this year, United have been a bit of a damp squib but the signing of Mata should prove us the attacking impetus we’ve been waiting to see this season.
