Manchester United goalkeeper joins Doncaster Rovers on loan

Sam Johnstone has joined Championship side Doncaster Rovers on a one month loan deal in the same week he signed a three and a half-year contract with Manchester United.

The young shot-stopper was out on loan earlier on this season but unfortunately picked up a finger injury in his first game with Yeovil Town which saw his planned three-month loan deal cut short.

Since his recovery, Johnstone has been first-choice between the posts for the Under-21 side. He has yet to make his first senior competitive appearance but was on the bench for two games in December – the 2-0 win over Stoke in the Capital One Cup and the 3-1 victory in the league against West Ham.

Johnstone was part of the FA Youth cup winning side in 2011 and has previously had stints with Walsall and Scunthorpe. Also, he was the No. 1 goalkeeper for England’s side at last summer’s Under-20 World Cup.
