The 21-year-old had to be stretchered off due to the injury and it is the cruellest of blows to a player who waited so long to earn a loan move.
Having captained our Under-21s last season, Thorpe was Mr. Consistent and earned a nomination for United’s Reserve Player of the Year because of his reliable and dependable performances.
However, this injury means he won’t be able to get the first team football he richly deserves and Birmingham boss Lee Clark admitted it was a blow for both Thorpe and Leicester.
“We’re devastated for him,” he said.
“He’s a terrific kid and we were absolutely delighted to get someone of his quality. Manchester United rate him so highly and he’s been a brilliant lad.”
Out of all the players who went out on loan this deadline day, Thorpe’s was the most exciting because it was finally a chance to see one of our most consistent Under-21 performer in a first team football environment. Hopefully, his injury prove to not be too serious and he can go back out on loan as soon as possible.
