Rio Ferdinand reacts strangely when wished good luck by fan on Twitter

by Sam Peoples

Rio Ferdinand had one of his best seasons in a Manchester United shirt last year as the 35-year-old rolled back the years to earn a place in the 2013 PFA Team of the Year.

However, this year couldn’t be any different for Ferdinand. He enjoyed a string of games at the start of the year to help in getting Moyes settled but has been left on the periphery since.

For some bizarre reason, he decided to go public with his frustration at David Moyes’ team selection process and it all that did was lead to rumours of rumblings in the United dressing room in the press, pretty much the last thing Moyes needed.

Moyes has stood by Ferdinand and insisted he still has an important role to play this season but Ferdinand’s clear frustration at his role this season isn’t helpling his cause and yesterday, Ferdinand gave a fan the cold shoulder when he did nothing but wish him good luck.

Somebody had been leaking team news to The Mirror’s David McDonnell before he was banned from press conferences and Ferdinand’s defensive reaction will do nothing to stop the rumours that he could be the mole.

United need their leaders this year and Ferdinand is one of our most senior players but his head hasn’t been in it this season. He seems more interested in his own public figure than United right now because he is likely to be retiring at the end of the season but Ferdinand needs to get his head back in the game as now that we’ve got injuries to Phil Jones and Jonny Evans, Ferdinand will be back in the team.
