The 24-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation linking him with a move away to Manchester United after news filtered out that contract negotiations had broken down.
While Bayern have intimated that there is no guarantee Kroos will sign a new contract and some say that he is replaceable in the Bayern team, Kroos admitted his focus is on his football this season but left the door firmly open for an exit if negotiations continued to stall.
“Much has been written, especially in the last few days, about my sporting future,” Kroos said.
“The fact is I am very happy to play for Bayern and my position in the team is very good. [However] The fact is also that we couldn’t agree a new contract.
“Since it runs until 2015 this is not a big problem, and we will see what the future brings.
“My focus is on the sport side of things and we will do everything possible to complete the season as successfully as last season.”
Kroos’ future at Bayern is far from certain and his public message to appease the fans will certainly help the speculation to continue – if his agent wanted the speculation to stop, no public message would have been released. They clearly want to get the fans to stand in support of Kroos staying at Bayern.
David Moyes should be buoyed by Kroos exerting pressure on Bayern to cough up more money. If they give him what he wants, he will stay but if they decide he is not worth the amount he is demanding, then there is every possibility United could offer him that and lure him to Old Trafford.
