Player Ratings: Manchester United 2-2 Fulham – Nobody stepped up

by Tom Parker

David de Gea 5 – Could do little with Fulham’s opener but might be disappointed with a save made in the build-up to the equaliser. Did well to stand up tall during one Richardson shot.

Rafael 5 – Was a decent outlet down the right and although he sometimes lacked composure in the final third, some of his balls into the box were excellent. Overall, not his best performance though.

Chris Smalling– Brought the ball out from the back adeptly and used the ball well. Relatively untested in his defensive actions.

Nemanja Vidic 5 – United’s skipper made a few thunderous aerial challenges but should have scored with a first half header. Questionable involvement in both of Fulham’s goals.

Patrice Evra 5 – Attacked with vigour down the left and created a couple of super chances with low crosses into the centre. Didn’t have much to do in the way of defending.

Michael Carrick 6 – Controlled play well, looking tidy on the ball and switching play intelligently. Put United ahead and had a number of chances from range as the game wore on.

Darren Fletcher 5 – Looked sloppy early on and never really looked comfortable in the centre. Gave the ball away too cheaply in the opening exchanges. Should have tracked Sidwell’s run for the first goal.

Juan Mata 5 – Struggled to influence the game from the right but looked effective when through the centre. Almost teed Rooney up before assisting Van Persie’s leveller. Squandered out wide.

Wayne Rooney 5 – Often looked to be lacking sharpness and struggled to control play when dropped further back. Almost got his name on the scoresheet but for a fine Stekelenburg stop.

Ashley Young 5 – Delivery from wide areas was generally good and he looked to be having a decent enough game before Moyes brought him off. Occasionally lacked composure in the final third.

Robin van Persie 5 – Snatched at a couple of first half chances which he surely would have dispatched last season. Did put United on terms with a poacher’s finish but was often unable to get the better of the impressive Dan Burn in the centre.

Adnan Januzaj 5 – His crossing was a little hit and miss but his direct style offered a different threat down the left hand side.

Antonio Valencia 4 – Came on at right back and did put in a few good balls but was out of position for Fulham’s last gasp equaliser.

Javier Hernandez 5 – Was lively in the box but didn’t have anything in the way of clear cut chances.
