Paul Scholes has hailed the signing of Juan Mata and labelled him as the best player in the Premier League over the past two seasons.
Mata was twice named Chelsea’s Player of the Year since 2012/13 and was also named on the PFA Team of the Year last year after scoring 21 goals and assisting 29 more in 60 appearances.
The 25-year-old has settled down at Old Trafford straight away with three assists in his first three appearances for the club and Scholes believes that if Mata can have a strong end to the campaign, United can reap the rewards.
“For the last couple of years Mata has probably been the best player in the league,” Scholes told ManUtd.com.
“We had to pay a lot of money for him and we were very lucky that he wasn’t in Chelsea’s plans, and only we can benefit from him now.
“Hopefully he can have a strong end to the season and he can help us climb the table.”
Mata may have three assists in three matches but he isn’t yet at his flowing best because he is still settling into the club.
Once he feels fully comfortable at United, hopefully we will see the sorts of performances that made him worth £37 million to David Moyes.
