Manchester United’s game against Arsenal tonight is crucial for both sides. United are in dire need of a win while Arsenal don’t want their season to start crumbling under the pressure of a title run-in.
There have been plenty of United fans who aren’t the slightest bit optimistic about our chances of winning but you should never write us off, especially not a side that has so many quality players on paper.
When Arsenal came to Old Trafford this season, they were bang in form. They left after United shut them out in a gritty 1-0 win. Nobody expected United to put in that sort of performance but we did and the fact we haven’t lost against Arsenal in the past five Premier League meetings gives us a psychological advantage, even in current circumstances.
Our team that played against Arsenal in the 8-2 drumming in August 2011 wasn’t exactly awe inspiring…
Neither was the side that comfortably cruised to a 2-0 FA Cup victory in March 2011…
Tonight, our team looks far stronger than either of those sides. We’ve got Van Persie, Mata, Rooney and Januzaj who should be able to make us a real threat in attack and although our midfield and defence looks shaky, we’ve got the goalscoring ability to win matches.
It is all about how United play on the night. If we resort to the crossing game we used against Fulham, we might end up banging our head against a brick wall again but if Moyes gets United playing like we did against Arsenal earlier this season, there is absolutely no reason why we can’t come away from the Emirates with three points.
