“I do follow the Premier League a lot and it’s always flattering when a club like Manchester United talks very well about you and you can see they want you,” Fabregas told the BBC.
“But I’m going through an amazing moment [at Barcelona] now.”
Since then, Fabregas has gone on to have a fantastic individual season in Spain with nine goals and 11 assists in 22 appearances to underline his status as one of the best central midfielders in football.
United’s pursuit of Fabregas was always a long shot given his links to both Barcelona and Arsenal but Moyes still wanted to make him his marquee midfielder. Unfortunately, we were left empty-handed.
This summer, Moyes can’t afford to fail with his bids for marquee midfielders as it is crucial United sign some world-class players to avoid a repeat of how this season has gone.
