Despite not scoring in his United career so far, Mata has been very influential and has bagged three assists already but he hasn’t yet hit top form, something Rooney believes will come in time.
“Juan has come in and it’s another world-class player to have in the squad,” he told Sky Sports.
“It’ll take time, it can always take a little bit of time for every player to gel and to bond but we really hope we can all start scoring goals and help the team be successful.”
Right now, United are in Dubai on a warm weather training camp aimed at revitalising the squad ahead of the Premier League run-in and Champions League knock-out rounds and Rooney is sure that the camp should help the team.
He added: “It’s nice to spend time together.
“When you’re at home you go to training then you go home and see your families.
“But with trips like this you’re training then spending time with the lads. It’s good for us all to be together.
“It’s a different environment for us and hopefully we can get some good training sessions in so we come back ready for the Palace game and the start of the Champions League.
“We’ve got a lot of massive games in the Champions League and the league.
We’re all looking forward to them.”
Rooney has a good point that the environment of being around each other for a long time is a different environment and hopefully it will help the team bond.
Right now, we’re disjointed team on the pitch but if we can use this warm weather training camp to our advantage, there is every chance we could walk out against Crystal Palace looking like a far stronger side.
