Darren Fletcher has earned a re-call to the Scotland squad for their friendly next month against Poland to complete his full comeback with both club and country.
At one stage, it looked like the 30-year-old wouldn’t be able to ever play football professionally again but he has pulled through with an unwavering determination and grit that is typical of his character to earn his call-up.
Fletcher hasn’t played for Scotland for nearly 18 months and he’ll be delighted to be back involved with his country, as is Gordon Strachan who admitted it was great to have Fletcher in his squad for the first time.
“It was wonderful over the Christmas period to see him back playing football,” Strachan told Sky Sports.
“We have got to take it a stage further. I’ve seen him playing and he has lost none of his enthusiasm, which he will never lose. To have him back in the squad is terrific.”
At 30, Fletcher will be one of the most experienced players in the Scotland side in a similar fashion to Manchester United and hopefully Fletcher can now continue to enjoy playing football for as long as possible.
