Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan is seen by many as the perfect box-to-box midfielder who could solve a lot of Manchester United’s midfield problems and according to the Sunday People, David Moyes has won the race to sign him.
Reports suggest United have been working hard behind the scenes to secure a move for the 23-year-old whose contract expires at the end of 2015 and that Moyes has managed to finalise a deal.
Prior to this season, Gundogan was one of the most promising midfielders in European football but he has been sidelined for the majority of the season with a back injury. However, if the reports are correct, they haven’t stopped Moyes from making a move for him.
There’s no doubt that Moyes is going to be investing heavily to improve United’s midfield this year and Gundogan could well become one of his reinforcements. However, given that Gundogan has repeatedly insisted Dortmund would be his first point of call in regards to his future, any deal would indicate a backtrack on that promise or that negotiations with Dortmund were unsuccessful and there has been no talk of that in the press.
