David Moyes hopes to have at least one of Rafael, Phil Jones or Jonny Evans back in action for Manchester United’s Champions League fixture against Olympiacos on Tuesday.
The trio were missing from United’s squad for the 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace yesterday through injury but they have a chance of returning to match fitness this week.
“We’ve got a few injuries but I’m hoping we might get a few of them back for Tuesday,” Moyes told Manutd.com
“We’ll get a chance to see how Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Rafael are on Sunday and see if they can join us.”
Chris Smalling deputised for Rafael at right-back against Crystal Palace but he really is not a natural right-back and we have missed having a consistent, injury free Rafael in the team this year.
As for Evans and Jones, it will be a boost to the squad if either can return on Tuesday because Smalling, Vidic and Ferdinand all played 90 minutes against Crystal Palace and the veteran duo are unlikely to be fully recuperated in time for our trip to Athens.
United haven’t conceded in the past two games against Arsenal and Crystal Palace which has given us some much-needed defensive stability but if we are to mount any sort of push towards the end of the season, we’ll need all three players back and ready for selection.
