Question marks have been asked all season about whether Robin van Persie is happy at Manchester United because he has cut a frustrated player on the pitch on occasion, but his celebration against Crystal Palace saw a great outburst of emotion from the Dutchman.
It may have been relief at scoring his fourth goal in five games but it was likely more to do with the fact that he had broken the deadlock and given United the lead in a game where we had been knocking on their door for without return for so long.
In a season where Van Persie has been quite reserved, it was a great reaction to see and he uploaded this picture from the game in celebration.
“Happy days,” the accompanying message wrote.
The reason many were frustrated at the claims that Van Persie might want to leave United in the summer was because in theory, he could.
Van Persie owes United nothing and only moved to Old Trafford for trophies, whereas right now we’re in seventh spot but that celebration should fill fans with optimism that Van Persie could still be a United player next year.
