Wayne Rooney admitted he was happy to get back among the goals with a volley against Crystal Palace after a mini drought, thanked Manchester United fans for their support and pointed towards enjoying his future at the club.
The 28-year-old committed his long-term future to United with a four-year contract extension this week and all eyes were on him for a performance that warranted the fact he got such a lucrative new contract, and he didn’t disappoint.
Speaking on his official Facebook page, Rooney said: “Great result for us tonight and good to get back on the score sheet. Big thanks to the fans they were amazing as always. Overall it’s been a great weekend and really looking forward to my future at Manchester United!”
Over the course of the whole game, Rooney was fantastic and he looked genuinely happy on the day, which isn’t a surprise given that the ink is still wet on a £300,000 a week contract.
It was a committed performance that saw Rooney back defending as much as he was attacking and hopefully he can now continue with those sorts of all-round performance for the rest of the season.
