Revelation in Rooney’s contract could change everything for Manchester United fans

Wayne Rooney and contracts. It’s not exactly the best of subjects for Manchester United fans is it? Back in 2010, he bent Sir Alex Ferguson over a barrel, threatened to leave for more money and got what he wanted.

In 2014, he looked like he was doing the same thing again but David Moyes convinced him otherwise, before he put the pen to paper on a reportedly £300,000 a week deal.

Fans were angered that Rooney had once again been given a pay rise but there is more than meets the eye with the deal.

Rooney’s basic wage of £250,000 reportedly hasn’t changed – the extra £50,000 would come through sponsorship deals for Rooney that United’s commercial team would secure for him rather than in cash.

If it’s true, then United haven’t been bent over by Rooney at all. His new contract extension wouldn’t leave the club out-of-pocket at all, it would merely play to our strengths given how powerful our commercial team is at securing deals and would, in turn, give Rooney the extra money he wanted.

Would this alter your perception on Rooney and being near a fire? Cheers.
