Jesse Lingard scored a stunning solo effort in Manchester United’s Under-21s game against Sunderland last night and it turned out to be winning goal.
The 21-year-old has been knocking on the door of the first team for a long time now and this goal was as good an example as you will get that he is ready to make the step up to the first team.
It was a fine example of how Lingard is a step above the Under-21s and how good his finishing is, just like it was on the pre-season tour in the summer.
Lingard was United’s top scorer on the 2013 pre-season tour and was one of the best performers alongside Wilfried Zaha and Adnan Januzaj, so fans were hoping he may have made a breakthrough already but Moyes is taking it slowly.
The young English winger has already made great strides towards becoming a first team player because he has been part of a few match day squads this season and David Moyes also took him on the recent warm weather break to Dubai, so when he is scoring goals like this it is only a matter of time before he gets his chance and the fact Moyes chose not to send him on loan speaks volumes for his chances this year.
