Tom Cleverley is seemingly more marmite than marmite itself and following Roy Hodgson’s call-up to the England squad for the friendly against Denmark next week, Manchester United fans had their say on the midfielder.
Hodgson has a soft spot for Cleverley and he featured more than most in England’s World Cup qualifying campaign but the 24-year-old’s inconsistent form has seen him become a scapegoat for United’s season.
His place in the England squad is a testament to the faith that Hodgson has in him but although there is some in support for him, plenty of United fans don’t think he should be there.
I wonder if Tom Cleverley would still be in the England squad if he didn’t play for #MUFC? (I think we all know the answer to that one)

Cleverely has been shite this season but has always been decent for Eng & played a role in them qualifying so it’s no shock he’s been picked

Shouldn't be saying this as a United fan, but Carrick and Cleverley don't deserve their spot. Gareth Barry just doesn't get a look in.

Don't know why people are slating Tom Cleverley, he keeps the ball well and works hard. Overall a solid player #england

Unsurprising but unnecessary inclusions: Lampard, Cleverley, Milner and Defoe.

What does Cleverley have to do to get dropped from the England squad?
— Man Utd FF (@ManUtdFF) February 27, 2014
Go on Clevz.

I'm assuming Tom Cleverley must have to gun Roy Hodgson down with a paintball gun before he misses out on an England squad…

Tom Cleverley's in too. Don't know how but he is. Smalling, Carrick, Rooney & Welbeck also in.

Cleverley had to quit Twitter earlier this season because of abuse he received from United fans and some took it as far as to make a petition online calling for United to sell him.
They clearly started a trend because somebody has now started a petition calling for Cleverley to be banned from England’s World Cup squad.
For me, Cleverley isn’t good enough to be a regular Manchester United start for years to come but he is a decent squad member and if we bring in top quality central midfielders, he could play a long term role for United.
