PICTURE: Moyes stays true to his promise by watching potential Vidic replacement

by Sam Peoples

At his press conference this week, David Moyes said that Manchester United may look at promoting a youngster from the academy rather than bringing in a costly replacement for Nemanja Vidic and he stayed true to that by watching Michael Keane from the stands today.

Keane was in action on loan for Blackburn Rovers and started against local rivals Burnley but unfortunately, he couldn’t prevent Burnley from recording their first win over Blackburn since 1978.

The 21-year-old is the primary candidate if Moyes is to bring a youngster through to the first team to replace Vidic and Under-21s captain Tom Thorpe is also a strong candidate.

Despite the loss, Keane did earn some positive reviews. Here is what Manutd.com┬áhad to say about Keane’s debut and there were others who also praised his performance.

Moyes is a meticulous man when it comes to scouting and preparation so between now and the end of the season, expect him to watch Keane on more than one occasion so he can pass judgement on whether he is ready to make the step up to the first team.

Keane might not have enjoyed his debut because of the result but at least this fan had a great time…
