Manchester United have won the race to sign FC Zurich’s Dimitri Oberlin Mfomo in the summer ahead of other European clubs, according to The Mirror.
The 16-year-old’s current deal with FC Zurich runs which means Manchester United could sign him for a relatively low fee that will have to cover compensation fees to the Swiss club.
Mfomo has been on Manchester United‘s radar for a long time. As his header picture on Twitter shows, the attacking midfielder played against United back in the 2013 Blue Stars FIFA Youth Cup last year in the same FC Zurich side that Saidy Janko was in – we subsequently signed Janko based on his performances in that tournament.
Janko has enjoyed an excellent debut season with United at every level and pushed his way into the Under-21s already, all of which is a good omen for Mfomo.
If Mfomo joins, he will become the third Swiss player at the club after Joel Castro Pereira and Janko. For United’s academy, signing another sensation like Mfomo would be a great coup, especially if he could turn out to be as good as the likes of Paul Pogba, Mats Daehli and Adnan Januzaj who have all grown into fantastic players.
