Robin van Persie‘s season with Manchester United has been far from rosy and his World Cup hopes have suffered a setback after compatriot Kevin Strootman was ruled out of the tournament with a cruciate ligament injury.
Holland’s team was already considered weak in comparison to their 2010 squad that were runners-up at the World Cup and coach Louis van Gaal admitted that only Van Persie, Strootman and Robben had guaranteed places in the squad for Brazil.
However, Strootman will now miss the tournament and Holland will have to find a replacement.
I wish @Kevin_strootman a speedy recovery so gutted for you my friend! I'm sure you will come back even stronger!

For Van Persie, it is a real blow to his World Cup hopes as Strootman was one of Holland’s most important players going into the tournament.
Given how up and down his domestic season has been, Van Persie would have been looking forward to enjoying the World Cup with Holland but this injury to Strootman is a damaging blow to their chances of winning in Brazil.
Hopefully, it won’t affect Van Persie’s mindset between now and the end of the season because he needs to improve his performances.
