Reports emerged earlier this week that Manchester United had agreed a £37 million fee with Sporting Lisbon for William Carvalho to bring him to Old Trafford before the World Cup started.
Those reports were somewhat substantiated last night when The Guardian’s Daniel Taylor indicated United had already agreed provisional deals for two players.
However, France’s Le 10 Sport have now credited Monaco will a strong interest in Carvalho and said they sent representatives to watch him in action against Porto this weekend, a game he played a starring role in as Sporting won 1-0.
Last season, Monaco bought Porto duo James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho so they certainly have links within the Portuguese league but United have a long-standing relationship with his agent Jorge Mendes, least not for Cristiano Ronaldo, so we’ve got our own connections.
Carvalho’s stock has risen so quickly off the back of less than one season in Portugal and one of his coaches praised his commitment and said a desire to make the most of the opportunity would be the reason behind any success Carvalho has.
He said: “If it turns out well, it will be appreciated but the principal is himself because took the opportunity given to him and showed his skills. He was only guided by the coaches.”
Do United already have a deal agreed for Carvalho? It would be great news if we did because Monaco are not the only club who have been linked with an interest and given how we failed to sign our primary targets last year, we can ill afford to repeat the same mistakes.
