Whether or not all four players deserve a new contract this summer is a matter of opinion but the reports suggest all four are part of Moyes’ future plans.
The most important contract of the four to finalise as soon as possible is De Gea’s. The Spaniard has been fantastic this season but his importance has come to the fore because of how poor the rest of the team has played. Without him in the team, United would be in a far worse position than we currently are (if that’s even possible).
With so many teams that are likely to be sniffing around De Gea’s this summer, it is imperative we tie him to a new contract as soon as possible.
As for the rest, Welbeck bleeds United and richly deserves his new contract while Jones is shaping up to becoming one of Manchester United’s most important players but neither player was ever going to leave United. Their contracts would be a reward.
The only surprise is the inclusion of Cleverley. He did not deserve to become the scapegoat for Manchester United’s terrible season but in equal measure, he does not deserve a new contract.
Everton have been linked with a move for Cleverley and he would make a great footballer in Goodison Park. In many respects, he’s Manchester United’s new Darron Gibson.
