<!–Article Start–>David Moyes revealed last night that Wayne Rooney was a doubt for Manchester United’s game against Bayern Munich next week with a big toe injury and would play no part against Newcastle this weekend.
It would be a major blow for Manchester United but Moyes’ decision to go public with the injury news is very peculiar, especially ahead of such a crucial tie for both him and the players.
All season, he has kept his cards very close to his chest when it comes to injuries. ‘He has a chance of being fit,’ was the phrase he uttered about Robin van Persie on so many occasions this season. This sounds like it could be Moyes’ mind games (beware).
Back in 2010, Sir Alex Ferguson rushed Wayne Rooney back into action for the second leg against Bayern Munich and it paid off as Manchester United were 3-1 up before half-time – the rest, as they say, is history.
Moyes has been put in a similar situation this year thanks to Rooney’s toe injury but don’t be surprised to see Rooney in the starting XI against Bayern, even if not 100% match fit.
