Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus was the star of the show last night against Real Madrid despite Dortmund being knocked out after a 2-0 victory.
Reus was in absolutely inspiring form and spearheaded Dortmund’s attempt to overcome a 3-0 deficit from the first leg and they could have done it, they certainly had enough chances.
On the night, Reus scored both of Dortmund’s goals and was a nightmare for Madrid because they simply couldn’t contain him.
His first goal came through an opportunistic sprint for the ball after a poor backpass from Pepe and he showed a great touch to take it around the corner and composure to slot it home.
The second goal was a great poacher’s goal – Reus was in the right place at the right time to follow up a Dortmund shot that hit the post to give the German club a chance of progressing to the semi-final.
Both were excellent finishes and his all-round play was impressive as well.
Moyes has already met up with Reus’ agent before back in January so the contact is already there and if Manchester United were willing to spend nearly £100 million on Gareth Bale last summer as widespread rumours suggested, then £40-50 million on Reus is a bargain.
He’s the whole winger package – someone with pace, intelligence, ingenuity, ability and technique are all in abundance with Reus – and he is somebody who could replace Nani’s spot in the squad as his agent admitted he was likely to leave.
Reus a fantasy football type signing on paper but this summer is going to have unprecedented levels of movement and if David Moyes only wants the best players to join this summer, he should look no further than Reus.
