Manchester United close to securing the perfect £65 million double deal

by Sam Peoples

Manchester United are confident about securing a £30 million deal for Southampton’s Luke Shaw according to a variety of sources.

Daily MailThe Telegraph, Daily Star and Red Issue and sources close to Andy Mitten have now all said that Manchester United are confident of securing a deal to bring Shaw to Old Trafford in the summer.

That’s a lot of media outlets, some with very strong reputations, who are all misguided unless strong information suggests that a Shaw deal is close to being agreed. It’s not usual for so many to toe the same line and all be wrong.

The attraction of first team football has been cited as a tempting lure for Shaw and there’s no doubt that if he did move to Old Trafford, he’d walk into our first team pending the departure of Patrice Evra – something he may not get at Chelsea.

In that sense, he could become our left back for a decade. £30 million for an 18-year-old might be a big investment but in the long term, if Shaw remained at Manchester United for that long then it would be a very sound investment. There would be some parallels with signing Rio Ferdinand for a similar fee and look how that turned out.

As well as Shaw, reports today suggested that Manchester United had agreed a £35 million deal for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.

Both of these reports support murmurings that have been gathering in pace all season about both Shaw and Carvalho and for Manchester United, it would be a fantastic way to start the summer.

Shaw and Carvalho fit the bill for Manchester United. Both are talented youngsters who have already shown that they have bags of potential and Old Trafford is the best place for that potential to flourish.

Over the years, we’ve seen promising youngsters blossom into superstars and in that respect, Shaw and Carvalho could become great players at United.

However, the effervescent @BusbyMUFC raised a fair point to consider – rumours about Carvalho and Shaw have both picked up pace near the season ticket renewal date. Is it a coincidence? It’s food for thought.

Next up after Carvalho and Shaw is Toni Kroos. Make it happen United!
