Reports emerged yesterday from talkSPORT that Manchester United had agreed a £35 million deal to bring Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho to Old Trafford.
They were followed up by the Manchester Evening News who claimed that reports from Portugal suggested a deal was in place for Carvalho.
Taking a look at the reports from Portugal, O Jogo have not said anything new and only discuss the reports from the British press while A Bola suggest that Sporting are holding out for the full €45 million release clause that Carvalho has in his contract.
As of right now, there are no new reports from Portugal from the club or player confirming a deal is already in place.
This is not to suggest the reports are false but merely that, currently, the Portuguese press are non committal with regards to any deal involving Carvalho.
On two separate occasions, The Mirror and talkSPORT have reported that Manchester United have already agreed to sign Carvalho and neither has led to any confirmation either way from any party involved but the longer the season goes on, the louder the Carvalho rumours have become.
Carvalho certainly looks like the sort of midfielder who could bring so much to United’s lackadaisical midfield but as of now, there is nothing to suggest a deal is in place other than reports from the British press.
